In the late summer of 1972, Ângelo de Sousa shoots the ground on which he walks on his way to the beach to the rhythm of his steps. As he watches the footage, he realises he wants to screen them at 5 images per second: he’s mostly interested in the frames, the slow movement, the changes in the extremely slow exposure. This was the first of a series of films having the ground as a subject, in which Ângelo de Sousa explored and radicalised these propositions.
