all over the world, exploring political, social and historical
subjects in detail.

directing and production trends in Portugal, with films
concluded in 2007 or 2008.
Special
Sessions SE
· Opening film
· Closing film
· Other Sessions
Frederick
Wiseman Retrospective RW
A retrospective of Frederick Wiseman,
one of the most important filmmakers in documentary history.
Doclisboa will show eleven of his most important films.
New
Vision R&E
Curator: Augusto
M. Seabra
A section aimed at discussing the
form and text of films, and especially daring works
situated on the frontier between documentaries and
fiction, a dialogue as old as the history of cinema
itself.
Filmed Diaries
and Portraits DF
Curator: Augusto M. Seabra
The second and last part
of this section will show films that could not be included
in last year’s edition, like “Juif Tropical” by
Joseph Morder. We also recommend “Une Histoire
du Vent”, by Joris Ivens and authors Raymond
Depardon, Robert Frank or Nan Goldin.
New
Families, New Identities NF,
NI
Curator: João de Pina
Cabral / Sérgio Tréfaut
The jurisdictional view on
concepts such as family, marriage, identity and gender
has suffered severed changes in these last few decades
on several countries of the western world. Today, family
has no longer the “crèche” as a model
or its traditional hierarchies. Family, identity and
the definition of gender have publicly gained larger
parameters (that have always existed on a minority level),
allowing new forms of liberty to exist. This transformation
of manners is often the reason for confrontation, thus
opening a path for an abundant documental production
that is particularly rich in testimonies and material
to reflect on..
Made
in China MC
Curator: Chen Zhi-Heng
China has produced thousands of
documentaries in the last fifteen years. Of all this
sea of films, some directors have managed to become
major stars in some of the biggest international festivals:
Zhang Yuang Jia Zhang-Ke, or Huang Wenhai, for example.
This section pretends to trace a portrait of deep China
(from 1994 until today) through the look of these authors,
focusing most particularly on the relations between
the individual and society.
Heart
Beat (Musical Program) HB
Heart Beat is a new non-competitive
section dedicated to the relation between humans and
music. It is not a selection of last year’s musicals,
but a group of historical or recent films in which
music and its universe (in all musical genres) allow
us to know something more about human beings and the
societies they live in. We will show, among other films: “Black
Tears” by Sonia Herman Dolz or “Il Baccio
di Tosca” by Daniel Schmid.
Mozambique! M
Polish Shorts CP
Maratonadoc MD
This year’s Marathon
is again presented in São Jorge Cinema in the
last day of doclisboa, dedicated to documentary lovers
with films over three hours long.
The state of Portuguese documentaries
To commemorate Apordoc 10th anniversary,
and as a conclusion to this edition of doclisboa, the
festival will present several events on the state of
Portuguese documentaries.
Docfestas
São Jorge
The docparties are associated
to the HEART BEAT musical programming, which takes
place in São Jorge Cinema.
