10 years of Apordoc
The state of Portuguese documentaries
Apordoc was officially founded as an association on the 15th of July 1998 with the goal of contributing to the development of a culture of documental cinema. To commemorate the association’s 10th anniversary, and as a conclusion to this edition of doclisboa, the festival will present several events on the state of Portuguese documentaries.
By tracing a review of its activity, it is first necessary to question the state of health of Portuguese documentary. What has changed in ten years? What were the founder’s dreams and those who supported it? What is today’s reality?

Pedro Mesquita

Bairro da Bouça is a dwelling economic project located in one of the noblest areas in the city of Porto, designed by architect Álvaro Siza Vieira, a construction that began in the middle 1970’s and was only recently concluded. Allocated to families who lived in degrading conditions – in so-called “islands” – this work came from the demand of a community to live in dignity it their own place and from the genius of one of the most respected architects of our times.

Gravura
Jorge Silva Melo
80’ Portugal

This documentary is about Gravura, the Portuguese engraver cooperative that was established in 1956 by a group of artists. Through almost three-dozen statements from some of the participants in the cooperative, the film depicts their history, its consequences and their origin among the opposition movements during the Portuguese dictatorship in an improvised garage. A unique time of friendship, learning and interchange, in a political time in the history of artistic forms.
