“In August 2013, al-Ghouta, once a venue for family outings and picnics on the outskirts of Damascus, was targeted by a chemical attack. Years before, it was a theme park, the hypercommodified location of Bab al-hara, a successful Syrian TV series on the resistance of a Damascene neighbourhood against the French occupation. After its military occupation by different armed factions involved in the Syrian conflict, its symbolic meanings never stopped ‘expanding’ into multiple space-temporal dimensions that embraced both lived and mediated experiences, personal and collective memories, remixed non-stop by the anonymous crowds of the Internet.” Donatella Della Ratta
