Doclisboa wants to question the present of film, bringing along its history and assuming cinema as a mode of freedom. By refusing the categorization of film practice, it searches for the new problematics that cinematic image implies, in its multiple ways of engagement with the contemporary.
Doclisboa tries to be a place to imagine reality through new modes of perception, reflection, and possible new forms of action.
New Visions
In parallel to the two competitions, this section further broadens Doclisboa’s variety of approaches towards the real and its representation. The New Visions section questions notions of fiction and documentary, modes of perception and seeing, and also presents a critique of cinema itself. In general, it gives attention to innovative propositions born of new contemporary tendencies, alongside surprising moments from cinema’s past. Here, categories, formats, and durations are challenged.
