doclisboa 2005 will take
place from 15th to 23rd October.
Only documentaries of any length completed after 1 January
2004 are eligible for competition.
There is no fee required for entry.
The Festival includes three competitive sections:
1. International Competition - feature docs
open to both film and video with minimum duration of
60 minutes
2. International Competition - short docs
open to both film and video with maximum duration of
60 minutes
3. What is the Portuguese documentary like? - Portuguese docs
DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES: 15th JULY 2005
VHS or DVD + a completed entry form.
You can only enter your documentary by sending one VHS tape or a DVD with a
completed entry form.
1. GENERAL FESTIVAL SCREENING REQUIREMENTS
Documentaries of any length that were finished after 1 January 2004 are eligible
for competition.
Films and videos can only be shown at the festival if they have English commentary
and/or English dialogue, or are the original versions with English subtitles.
DOCLisboa accepts the following screening formats: 16mm and 35mm, Betacam SP
PAL and Digibeta PAL.
2. HOW TO ENTER YOUR FILM
1. doclisboa must receive:
· a completed and signed entry form with one VHS tape (PAL) or
a DVD. The preview tapes must have an English, French, Spanish or Portuguese
voice-over and/or dialogue and/or subtitles
· a synopsis in English (max. 500 strokes)
· relevant background information
· three photos of the film and one of the director(s) in digital
format (min. 300 dpi)
· a list of credits
· a biography and a filmography of the director(s)
2. No entry fees are due for submitting
a film or video to the festival.
3. All postal/shipping expenses
to and from the festival are to be paid by the entrants.
4. Return of the preview tapes:
unless there is an explicitly request, the submitted tape will not
be returned to the entrants.
3. SELECTION PROCCEDURE AND FOLLOW UP
1. The festival management selects
the documentaries that will participate in all the programme sections.
In case of a film being selected, the festival will notify the applicant,
director, producer or distributor of the film by 5 September at the
latest.
2. after selection of a documentary,
the festival has the right to:
· use three minutes from the documentary for broadcasting purposes,
on doclisboa -related websites or in theatres;
· use the publicity material (EPK, press books, posters, stills
etc.) to promote the festival;
· keep the VHS cassettes of selected documentaries in its archive
for non-circulating reference and educational purposes.
4. TRANSPORT OF PRINTS / VIDEOS
Until 27th September, the festival must have received the screening copy of
the documentary. In case doclisboa wishes to use the film/video for a press
screening, the sender will be contacted prior to this date. doclisboa will
contact producers, distributors, directors (or any other person who is stated
on the entry form as the contact) about the shipment and the exact shipping
address. A pro forma invoice must accompany the print or video, stating the
name of the sender, the title of the film, its size and length, number of reels
and whether it is in colour or black-and-white. The festival will return the
copy after the festival. The recipient will get a dispatch notice from the
festival.
Transportation costs
In case of 16mm or 35mm film, the costs of transportation to Portugal are the
responsibility of the applicant up to free arrival at Lisbon Airport. The
costs of transportation of videos to the festival office are the responsibility
of the applicant.
The festival will take care of the costs of custom clearance of films at Lisbon
Airport both for importation and exportation. The festival pays for the freight
charges from Lisbon up to arrival at the airport of destination. Please bear
in mind that the consignee is responsible for the re-importation charges at
the country of destination. With regard to videos, doclisboa will pay for the
costs of transportation to the destination of your choice.
Insurance
The shipping insurance for shipping films and videos to and from Portugal is
entirely the responsibility of the participants.
Upon gaining possession of the films or videos from the shipping company, the
festival will only accept limited responsibility, extending to the time that
the festival organisation returns the film or video to the shipping company.
The definition of this limited responsibility only includes a refund of laboratory
expenses for making a new print of the film reel(s) damaged or, in case of
a video, duplication of the videotape. It does not extend to negatives, positives
or master videotapes.
In case of faulty projection, the festival cannot be held responsible for immaterial
damage suffered by director, producer or distributor. Complaints will only
be considered if lodged within six weeks after the festival.
Guests of the festival are not covered by the festival insurance. Press kits,
photos, videocassettes and other materials are not included in the limited
insurance responsibility.
5. INVITATIONS
The directors of the films selected may be invited to the festival.
6. JURIES AND AWARDS
An international jury will select the winning film in the International Competition
- Feature and Short docs. The Jury has the option to grant a Special Jury Award.
Another international jury will single out the best documentary as First Doc
and the best Portuguese documentary.
The festival management and juries' decisions are final. Entry and participation
of documentaries implies unconditional acceptance of the regulations. In unspecified
cases, the festival management will make a final decision.
