Doclisboa wants to question the present of film, bringing along its history and assuming cinema as a mode of freedom. By refusing the categorization of film practice, it searches for the new problematics that cinematic image implies, in its multiple ways of engagement with the contemporary. Doclisboa tries to be a place to imagine reality through new modes of perception, reflection, and possible new forms of action.

Workshops And Sessions For Children And Youngsters Aged 4 To 15

Docs 4 Kids

Workshops that bring the documentary closer to children and youngsters, through watching films, reflecting on and debating them, along with artistic proposals, which bring to life ideas raised by the films.

In this year’s edition, we focus on the struggle of indigenous people to strengthen their identity, and territorial and cultural heritage. What if some day some director, instead of grabbing his camera to record, would hand it over to the ones he intends to shoot? And what if, in addition to letting them shoot, he would allow them to watch the footage? First, he’d have to make sure his characters are familiar with that kind of equipment, and train them, and then confirm that they have the means to screen their own videos.

In the 1990s, director Vincent Carelli carried out that experiment with Nambiquara Indians, in Brazil. Due to the instrument’s potential, the experiment has been taken to other groups and has been generating a series of audio-visual contents on how each people integrated video in a particular way. This project, titled “Video in the Village”, made it possible to create a relevant archive of images of the indigenous peoples of Brazil, and produce a collection of over 70 films so far. Some of those videos will be the starting point for the workshops and screenings.
