Cláudia Varejão was born in Porto and studied film at the Gulbenkian Creativity and Artistic Creation Programme with the German Film and Television Academy of Berlin and at the International Film Academy in São Paulo (Brazil). She also completed the Advanced Course on Photography at AR.CO. She directed a trilogy of short films – Fim-de-semana, Um Dia Frio and Luz da Manhã – and the feature films No Escuro do Cinema descalço os Sapatos and Ama-San.
Doclisboa wants to question the present of film, bringing along its history and assuming cinema as a mode of freedom. By refusing the categorization of film practice, it searches for the new problematics that cinematic image implies, in its multiple ways of engagement with the contemporary.
Doclisboa tries to be a place to imagine reality through new modes of perception, reflection, and possible new forms of action.
