Werner Schroeter
Germany, France, UK, 1996, 130’
A meditation on love, life, death and the human voice. Werner Schroeter brings together some of his favourite opera singers in Royaumont Abbey, near Paris, and sets them a challenge: to work on an aria expressly chosen by him as he follows them closely throughout the entire process. A film that has particular resonance to Portugal: this piece, with sound by Vasco Pimentel, was one of the favourite works of João Bénard da Costa.
