ATELIERS VARAN, A MODEL SCHOOL
The Ateliers Varan (Paris) trains documentarians in the “cinema direct” method.
At Ateliers Varan they learn to show everyday reality. It is not a school in the academic sense of the word: teaching is based around providing practical directing experience.
By showing some of the best films made by Ateliers students from all over the world, doclisboa hopes to inspire film students. Admission free for students.
DIRECTING WORKSHOP
This year, doclisboa has set up a workshop with six directors to answer the question « what are the challenges of documentary filmmaking ? » There will be six sessions of approximately three hours each with Nicolas Philibert, Marília Rocha, Želimir Žilnik, among others.
At each session, a director will talk about the challenges they faced over their career as a documentary filmmaker.

LISBON DOCS
PITCHING SESSION- PRESENTING DOCUMENTARY PROPOSALS
Organized in partnership with EDN – European Documentary Network, Lisbon
Docs is an international event directed at professionals aiming to pitch their documentary film ideas to potential financial backers.
20 pre-selected proposals will be put to a panel of television network representatives from various countries. The proposals-Pitching presentation is open to the public and will include trailers from films in preparation. Each presentation will last 7 minutes, followed by a further 7 minutes for questions and answers.

DOCBREAKFAST- documentary distribution and circulation
Doclisboa’s professional breakfasts aim to encourage activities related to the distribution and sale of documentaries. Taking part this year will be various distributors and broadcasters, among them being: 10 Francs (Franca), Rialto (Holland), First Hand Films (Switzerland), TV Cine (Portugal), SIC Notícias (Portugal) and program organizers from various international festivals.. COLOQUIUM: WHAT IS PUBLIC SERVICE TELEVISION?
Doclisboa has organised its first international conference to determine what parameters define public service broadcasting in European countries.

Anna Glogowski (France) and Raymond Warravens (Holland).

The videotheque – situated in front of the Culturgest Big Auditorium – is free and open to the public. Around 1300 titles sent to doclisboa 2009, are available for viewing,

Tribute to Pina Bausch
As part of the tribute doclisboa is paying to Pina Bausch, the Goethe-Institute
has invited fans of the German choreographer to take part in a conversation on the impact and importance of her work on the world of dance and the cultural scene in Portugal.
