[CI] International Competition
A selection of some of the most important films (shorts and feature
films) produced in 2006 and 2007.
[I] Investigations
Competitive section with films from all over the world, which explore
political, social and historical subjects in detail.
[P] National Competition
A competitive section that showcases directing and production trends
in Portugal, with films concluded in 2006 or 2007
[DF] Filmed Diaries and Portraits
The private life of directors has been linked to cinema from the
very outset: my life as a film. This retrospective is a unique
opportunity to see classics and rare works. Curator: Augusto M.
Seabra
[VN] Nordic Wind
A panorama of recent developments in the field of documentaries in
Northern Europe (Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland). Widely acclaimed
in festivals, Nordic films are full of surprises both on account
of their formal qualities as well as their unusual humour.
In collaboration with Filmkontakt Nord
[RE] New Visions
A section aimed at discussing the form and text of films, especially
daring works that are situated on the frontier between documentaries
and fiction, a dialogue that is as old as the history of cinema
itself.
[LK] Retrospective Lech Kowalski
Lech Kowalski is a larger figure of the American underground cinema.
His films are, since the beginning, an observation of the edges,
a meeting with outsiders. He filmed the backstages of the pornographic
cinema and was witness of the culmination and fall of punk. He
registered the 70’s in New York as few, and his works focus on
the rebels.
[SE] Special Sessions
The most recent works of some renowned names in the field of documentaries
(Rithy Panh, Frederik Wiseman and Spike Lee),
and the national première of Sicko, the latest film by Michael
Moore. Also worthy of note are the two sessions on Angolan documentaries
(in collaboration with the Angolan Institute for Cinema) and the
presentation of two films by Margarida Gil and João Botelho about
great Portuguese writers.
[MD] DocMarathon
Concentrated over the course of a single day, the Marathon is a grand
farewell party marking the conclusion of the festival. In Hall
1, the day begins early with A Taxi to the Dark Side and ends at
dawn with a bio-pic about Marlon Brando. In Hall 3, two cult films
(Warhol by Ric Burns and Diary by David Perlov) comprise almost
ten hours of projections.
