In 1998, during a trip to the south of the United States, the murder of James Byrd Jr. in Jasper, a small town in Texas, haunts the film director. The movie is not an autopsy of the murder - the lynching of an African American by three white men - but rather how this fact is acted in both the mental and physical landscapes.
