Program

For the Songhay from the bend of the Niger, south of Timbuktu and of Gao, circumcision is the ritual ceremony that marks the rise to manhood. The boys are gathered outside of the village. During the operation, an adult helps them overcome the pain. At night, the thirty boys leave for the first time and sing the song of the circumcised.
