A shakuhachi is a japanese flute made with the root and the base of a male bamboo that is dried outside, in the shade, until it has lost all of its oil. Then they drill 4 holes in the front and 1 in the back. This instrument has been used during the 17th century by a zen sect. They thought the breath of the flute was the way of meditation.
