“Word is Out” is the first documentary manifesto about lesbian and gay identity in the United States. The film had a huge impact and became an icon of the emerging gay rights movement. “Word is Out” presents a mosaic of 26 powerful testimonies by individuals, with ages ranging from 18 to 77, who describe their experiences coming out, falling in and out of love, and struggling against prejudice and discriminatory laws. The release of this restored copy allows us to reflect on the changes in habits that occurred over three decades.
