Masterclasses

Jørgen Leth

18 OCT. | Monday | 11:00 | Culturgest ·Large Auditorium
free entrance, mediante levantamento de bilhete

Considered by Lars Von Trier as the master of Nordic documentary scene, Jørgen Leth is also a provocative director. Despite the clean conceptual approach that emerge in all his films, Leth defines his “working credo” in a rather unexpected way: “A Film is a series of images put together. Not a sequence, not a story, but a series of images, nothing more. The order of the images is less important than the single image. The final consequence of that assertion is that the images may be put together blindfolded. I consider chance a great inspiration. I allow chance some leeway in my films, during shootings, but often during editing, too. In various ways, I invite chance to join in the game.”

Marceline Loridan Ivens

19 OCt. | tuesday | 11:00 | Culturgest · Large Auditorium
free entrance, mediante levantamento de bilhete
Marceline Loridan-Ivens, born Rosemberg, is a documentarist, filmmaker, and a living legend. Survivor of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp, she tells part of her deportation experience in the legendary film "Chronique d'un Été" directed by Edgar Morin and Jean Rouch (International Critics Prize at Cannes Film Festival, 1961).
In 1962 Marceline Loridan co-directs "Algérie, Année Zero", and a few years later she establishes with Joris Ivens the production house Capi Films. With Ivens she works in "17ème Parallèle", "Comment Yukong Déplaça les Montagnes", and "Une Histoire de Vent". Their symbiotic relationship crossed more than three decades. After Joris Ivens' death, she directed "La Petite Prairie aux Bouleaux", an autobiographic fiction film, featuring Anouck Aimée in the main role, and publishes her memoires "Ma Vie Balagan" (2008).
