Once residence of the Mendelssohns, this ruinous estate near Berlin is now workplace for “one-euro-jobbers“, a controversial welfare program. Their personal stories interweave with the palace’s turbulent history: GDR children’s home, Soviet military base, and the Mendelssohns, whose name does not seem to mean anything to anyone here anymore.
