Seventy years after Lévi-Strauss’s last visit to the Nambikwara, Lévi-Strauss revisits the same places. Similarly to what Lévi-Strauss had done to them, the Nambikwara have also transformed him into a myth. The film includes the most poetic passages of “Tristes Tropiques,” narrated by Jean-Claude Carrière. An indigenous teacher searches for the meaning behind the anthropologist’s endeavour: to travel to the ends of the world to attain a knowledge that may free us from the fetters of our own culture.
