The sessions happen in the context of the cycle\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.portopostdoc.com\/home\/ha-filmes-na-baixa\/2020\/#C1\">H\u00e1 Filmes na Baixa!<\/a>, at Cinema Passos Manuel, in Porto.<\/p>\n<p>The programme includes the winners of Doclisboa&#8217;18:\u00a0<em>Greetings from Free Forests<\/em>, by Ian Soroka, winner of the International Competition (screened on the January 30 at 22h) and\u00a0<em>Terra, by<\/em>\u00a0Hiroatsu Suzuki and Rossana Torres, winner of the Portuguese Competition (screened on the January 25 at 22h).<\/p>\n<p>The international winner of the 2018 edition of Porto\/Post\/Doc will also be screened:\u00a0<em>The Kamagasaki Cauldron war<\/em>, by Leo Sato, on the January 31 at 22h.<\/p>\n<p>The programme begins with the screening of Frederick Wiseman&#8217;s documentary <em>Monrovia, Indiana<\/em> on January 16, followed by <em>The Silence of Others<\/em> by Almudena Carracedo and Robert Bahar and produced by Pedro Almod\u00f3var, on the day after, January 17. This latter portrays the ongoing struggle of the resistance against the Franco dictatorship, accompanying victims and survivors of the regime.<\/p>\n<p>On January 24, Jos\u00e9 Barahona&#8217;s <em>Clandestine Soul<\/em>\u00a0will be screened. An important and urgent film about Maria Auxiliadora Lara Barcelos (1945-1976), also known as Dorinha, a medical student, idealist and resistant to the military dictatorship imposed in Brazil.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The full programme:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>January 16 | 22h00<\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Monrovia, Indiana<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nFrederick Wiseman, USA, 2018, 144\u2032<\/p>\n<p>Monrovia, Indiana (population 1,400), founded in 1834, is primarily a farming community. The film explores the conflicting stereotypes and illustrates how values like community service, duty, spiritual life, generosity and authenticity are formed, experienced and lived. It gives a complex and nuanced view of daily life, with emphasis on community organizations and institutions, and provides some understanding of a rural, mid-American way of life.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/uY0-RcajyBg?start=6&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>January 17 | 22h00<\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>The Silence of Others<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nAlmudena Carracedo, Robert Bahar, USA \/ Spain \/ Croatia, 2018, 96\u2032<\/p>\n<p><em>The Silence of Others<\/em> reveals the urgent and ongoing struggle of victims of Spain\u2019s 40-year dictatorship under General Franco, who continue to seek justice to this day. Filmed over six years, the film follows victims and survivors as they organize the ground-breaking \u201cArgentine Lawsuit\u201d and fight a state-imposed amnesia of crimes against humanity, in a country still divided four decades into democracy.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/qjfK5u-8PYA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>January 24 | 22h00<\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Clandestine Soul<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nJos\u00e9 Barahona, Brazil, 2018, 100\u2032<\/p>\n<p>Maria Auxiliadora Lara Barcelos was a political activist, who fought against the Brazilian dictatorship in the 1960s. She was arrested, tortured and banned from Brazil. She committed suicide, in Berlin, in 1976.
