Yesterday Mitte Tomorrow
Gestern Mitte Morgen
Peter Zach
Portrait of the post-1989 alternative culture scenes coming out of the temporary autonomous zone that was Berlin’s central district of Mitte. Taking his cue from Alfred Döblin’s landmark novel Berlin Alexanderplatz, the director revisits that story’s Mitte locations and explores how artists and cultural activists engage with these spaces, both in the freedom they offered at the time and their historical legacy.
