Alice dos Reis

World Premiere
Eligible for Short Film Award

Axolotls are water salamanders almost blind with regenerative abilities who refuse to metamorphose into maturity. In captivity, they collectively decide to develop eyelids to block the brightness in their tanks. The film intersects the axolotl’s post-colonial history, its unique and almost unearthly biology, its critical condition bordering extinction, and its recent, anachronistic online popularity as one of the world’s cutest creatures.
