Fourteen-year-old Herman Slobbe is the centre of the film. He comments on various blues bands, invents his own radio programme and masterfully imitates the engine sounds in a motor race. Van der Keuken involved the boy in the making of the film by letting him do the sound. Walking across the fairgrounds, Herman describes what he’s experiencing, microphone in hand.
