Take a classroom board, a maths teacher, and a call from Auguste Blanqui as a title. The scene is set. Secondary-school pupils, whose voices succeed one another in faltering German, sing at first an extract from Wagner's Parsifal. Other verses follow, by Mahmoud Darwish, Rimbaud, Plato revisited by Alain Badiou, or even Joy Division.

Special Programme 2
A moment crystallizes: it turns into image, word and body. It brings the power and drama of a beginning. Cinema is able to invent a policy and a poetry that encompass a possible revolution. It is the refusal of the totalitarian image, a testimony that digs into the past and returns its vitality and its transforming power. Youth may well be the place where the past is still an open wound. The relationship between spaces, bodies and words is re-enacted, staged, recited and mapped. Cinema with an acute awareness of itself and of its tools will always be a weapon for struggle.

The director will be at the 29th of October screening.
