Special Programmes

Between 1975 and 1979, at least 250,000 women were forced into marriages by the Khmer Rouge. At the age of 16, Sochan Pen tried to resist but the Khmer Rouge ordered her husband to rape her. Since then, she has lived with the shame, confiding in no one. Now she has decided to confront that memory to understand what happened to her and to the women of her country.

Special Programme 1
History takes place within an unpredictable and sensible space between the intimate and the public, the personal history and the people's destiny. In this space violence acquires faces and names. The unbearable nature of what happens to us gets stronger by the words, which may encompass a frail redemption. To the women filmed here the meeting between memory and word becomes a vital and generous act. The singular bestows history with its real dimension.
