Steps
Cinema of Urgency
In January 2011 the world watched the Egyptian revolution that overthrew the government of Hosni Mubarak. In the summer of 2013 new protests led to the overthrowing of President Mohamed Morsi. Amateur cameras film the fights between democrats and armed forces and the Muslim Brotherhood, the armed violence, and the vandalising of churches and museums. Between different sequence shots, wandering amongst the crowds with the urgency to record those moments, we follow the footsteps of those who document the daily life of a country on the verge of a civil war.
