After the fall of the Wall, almost like a seismograph, Akerman endeavours to record, in long travelling shots, what becomes of these countries. Eastern Germany, Poland, Russia: everywhere the same desolation, gouged-out spaces, dilapidated buildings, crowds of anonymous beings, waiting for who knows what, probably the definitive end of History.
